An exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering business
Sharkey Lifting Limited is looking for a proactive, commercially minded and highly organised individual to join our team in a key sales and operations coordination role.
We are a specialist engineering company operating in the elevator, lifting equipment and construction sectors. We supply elevator components, lifting equipment and associated engineering services, including installation, testing and inspection.
Having recently invested in and expanded our business, we are looking for someone who can help drive sales, strengthen customer relationships and ensure the smooth coordination of customer orders and engineering projects.
This is a varied role combining customer sales, technical product support, quotation follow-up, job coordination and administration. The successful candidate will work closely with our customers, suppliers, warehouse supervisor and site engineers to ensure that opportunities are converted into business and that confirmed orders and jobs are delivered efficiently and professionally.
We are looking for someone who takes initiative, follows things through and understands that excellent customer service, attention to detail and commercial awareness are essential to our continued success.
The Role
The successful candidate will take an active role in developing customer relationships, following up sales opportunities and coordinating the administrative and practical requirements of confirmed orders and site work.
You will be a key point of contact for customers, helping them identify the products and services they require, providing relevant technical information and ensuring their orders and projects progress smoothly from initial enquiry through to completion.
You will also coordinate the documentation and site access requirements associated with engineering work, monitor progress, follow up outstanding actions and ensure that inspection certificates, job records and any additional work requirements are properly recorded and communicated.
This role will suit someone who enjoys working with people, has a strong commercial instinct and takes pride in keeping customers informed and ensuring that commitments are followed through.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Customer Development
- Proactively contact existing customers to identify new opportunities, generate repeat business and develop customer accounts.
- Follow up enquiries and quotations in a timely and professional manner to maximise conversion into confirmed orders.
- Identify opportunities to promote additional products, services and solutions relevant to customer requirements.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with customers through regular communication, reliability and excellent service.
- Respond promptly to customer enquiries and ensure that outstanding questions or issues are resolved.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, quotations, sales opportunities and follow-up actions.
- Work towards agreed sales and customer development objectives.
Technical Product Support
- Develop a strong working knowledge of the elevator components, lifting equipment and associated engineering services supplied by Sharkey Lifting.
- Interpret customer requests and establish the products, equipment or services required.
- Provide customers with accurate product information, specifications and technical guidance within the scope of your knowledge and authority.
- Liaise with suppliers, warehouse colleagues and engineers where further technical clarification is required.
- Prepare quotations and ensure that the products, quantities, specifications, pricing and delivery requirements are accurate.
- Build product knowledge continuously and keep up to date with changes to the products and services we offer.
Job and Site Coordination
- Coordinate confirmed installation, inspection, testing and other engineering jobs from booking through to completion.
- Liaise with customers to arrange site access, agree suitable dates and confirm the practical requirements for each job.
- Organise site-specific documentation, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), online site inductions and other required safety or access documentation.
- Work closely with site engineers to ensure they have the information, documentation and access arrangements required before attending site.
- Monitor scheduled jobs and follow up on progress, delays or outstanding customer requirements.
- Confirm that completed jobs have been properly documented and that relevant certificates and reports have been completed and uploaded to the appropriate systems.
- Follow up with engineers to ensure additional work requirements, defects or recommendations identified on site are recorded and communicated for quotation or further action.
- Maintain accurate job records and ensure that outstanding actions are followed through to completion.
Order Processing and Warehouse Coordination
- Process customer orders accurately and ensure they are communicated promptly to the relevant team.
- Work closely with the warehouse supervisor to coordinate picking, packing and dispatch of customer orders.
- Monitor order progress and communicate delivery arrangements or any delays to customers.
- Ensure that customer requirements, delivery deadlines and special instructions are clearly recorded and communicated.
- Follow up on outstanding orders and help resolve issues that could affect delivery or customer satisfaction.
- Maintain clear communication between customers, sales, warehouse and engineering teams.
Administration and Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate customer, quotation, order and job records within the company’s systems.
- Ensure that documentation is completed, filed and uploaded promptly.
- Follow up on outstanding quotations, orders, job reports, certificates and other administrative requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve sales follow-up, job coordination, communication and administrative processes.
- Embrace new technology, digital systems and improved working practices as the business continues to grow.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines a proactive sales approach with excellent organisational and communication skills. The ideal candidate will not simply wait for customers to contact them. They will take ownership of their workload, follow up opportunities, anticipate what needs to happen next and ensure that customers and colleagues receive the information they need. You should be comfortable balancing customer enquiries, sales activity, administrative tasks and job coordination in a busy environment.

- The confidence to communicate with customers, suppliers, warehouse staff and engineers.
- A strong sense of ownership, accountability and follow-through.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
- A willingness to learn technical products and develop a thorough understanding of our business.
